Derek When seeking advice on rug identification from afar, a few pointers to assist will help you. The corner should be folded back a fair way to to show the backing Is the fringe wool? Cotton? Silk? Sewn on? Tea washed? Are the dyes stable? Pile fibre? How old? Was it bought here or overseas? Identifying oriental rugs is much, much more than just the pattern, so basically as much information as you can gather at initial survey will be helpful. Safe and happy identification The Ken
cheers ken, oh and steve thought you wizards could get it from the pattern. its cotton tassles, wool face fibre, dyes are stable, but no history as my client bought it second hand. only weird thing that may help the experienced guys is.....its has the occasional thin black strand (what looks like accidentally) sewn in to the facefibre
Fibres, construction and dye stability are what is required for cleaning ......... working out if it was made in a certain village at a certain time, by a left handed man with a squint & a lisp ....... may not add much to the job ticket
all ready got the job, ticket price is errrrm well its tickety boo don't need any help cleaning it. but client asked what it might be and i said what steve said just thought i could enlighten her on the return which is tomorrow,
I always like to add bits of knowledge when a client asks but primary concern is how to prevent anything going wrong ........ mind you, would always be handy to know where to obtain a replacement
