I've just heard from a colleague down under who inadvertently over-sprayed the carpet a little. The surplus detergent went onto her foot and the consequences are serious.

Yes, our detergent-free products are regarded by many as being safer than most or even all detergents, but that is no reason to be complacent.

Think about what you are doing and don't allow your concentration to lapse. You may regret it.

That looks like a burn from sodium hydroxide (caustic soda), a common ingredient in detergent carpet cleaning products and in the majority of oven cleaning products.

In the oven cleaning forum I have advised several times that a bottle of vinegar be kept within reach of caustic dip tanks as a neutraliser for any skin contact.

Very scary.

Must have been something strong on that first picture.. I've worn crocs when prespraying (not advised btw) as I have a pair for inside.. Thankfully I was lucky and nothing like this happened..

I also had a bucket full of chemical mixed cold steam go over me, as I tripped on someones driveway.. again, aside from a bruised ego, nothing major.. Although the customer was howling in laughter at me having to strip down to undies and lent me a pair of her husbands shorts and t shirt...

An update about the lady above who has a chemical burn on her toe.

She's going to see a specialist next week as she may have to have a skin graft.

Ouch!
