Hi All,

Looking for bit of advice. Just had a client asking me if I could get rid of damp smell and refresh the carpets. I walked in this afternoon and the carpet feels wet after 4/5 days. What would be your solution for it? The carpet is wool. I thought about either fusion 8 or M Power even spm breeze with acid rinse. and force to dry afterwards.

Thanks in advance

Bart,

There seems to be delamination in the hallway, which may get worse with any clean. But you cannot clean a wet carpet and any attempt to resolve the odour problem would require the acarpet and underlay up-lifted, the underlay disposed of and the carpet dried prior to cleaning.

An insurance claim would seem to be the best course or at the least any treatment being conducted by a flood restoration specialist.

Thank you ! I would not attempt to clean damp carpet. I advised the client to keep windows open and we’ll see what happens.

Was the carpet self cleaned using an RD by the client , or by a so called carpet cleaner
:cowboy:
If by a so called carpet cleaner then surely they should call him back

Just spoke with the client and he still wants it to get it done regardless what the outcome will be. He said, he will be happy even if the carpet looks a bit cleaner than now. He is fully aware of everything. Thank you all for your advise !!! Much appreciate it

Bart, to clarify

The advise highlighted above does not speak about whether the carpet will look cleaner if you go in, it probably will.

They highlight the bigger issue of the fabric degradation, underlay and subflooring, water damage of potentially the skirting and bacterial odor/exposure.

My concern as you asked the question, is that you do not realise the minefield you have now accepted.

Bart,

Even when the surface feels fairly dry the underlay may still be sodden. attempting to extract under such circumstances will draw stagnant water towards the surface. Without following the correct procedure any significant improvement would require several visits and matters could be worse before any improvement is made. with a weather forecast for warmer conditions next week mould could become a major issue and that in turn could lead to bronchial problems for the occupants.

This could cost your customer dearly and if the worst comes to the worst could cost you thousands more. Please consider your position and explain that this is a job that needs to be done correctly or not at all as you politely decline to get involved.

Get a letter to say that they agree with what you have told them even though it will not hold up if he then turns nasty But please tell me why you would want to take on this trouble You just as well buy him a new carpet and please if you are mad enough to take on this job remove underlay
