did you notice anything unusual while cleaning? When this has happened to me it has been pretty obvious that the finish is coming off and sometimes it happens while cleaning very gently. I just fix it, as it's a very simple fix.

Was pre existing damage. I don’t do the restoration as don’t particularly enjoy it and it’s too faffy for me. Have a guy who does it for me

If the damage was already there, I would not be surprised if they have used other types of cleaning products to wipe it down, like wet wipes for example. People buy leather furniture thinking that they are easier to maintain and clean than a fabric suite, little do they realise how easy it is to damage leather finishes.
