I have just called to look at a rug for an elderly lady. She had a company out to clean it and what a mess. The rug cost £15000 when she bought it but hardly worth shit now. She has asked if I can salvage it and she is happy to sign a waiver as she knows it is fubar. Best solutions suggestions please.

Why you would let a clearly obviously mega cheap company what’s around the same price as a rug doctor + not checked insurance clean your £15000 rug is mind blowing. I’d be slightly inclined to walk and that’s not something I’ve ever done before. If you’re so inclined to clean however get that paper trail which still won’t make you bulletproof for a claim, but it’s a big deterrent

I'd be telling her to speak to her insurers before I went near it. Lots of photos and written explanation of process and what to expect as possible outcomes.

It might even be that you simply write a report giving an assessment for the insurers.

I think her valuation is over the top for this, if she paid anywhere near this sort of money she was also ripped off by the salesman/company. To wet clean this weight of wool rug (properly) needs more equipment than many will keep onboard.
You can at least make it better than what it is, you need to be careful of some colour bleed so Acid Rinse is essential, it was obviously not back dusted, again considering its enviroment this would need a concentrated dry extraction front and back before turning anything into mud. Fringes ARE a nightmare, up to you how you react, sometimes a couple of poly wallpaper troughs are good to soak fringes in , but again you are looking at preparation and drying times.
Ideally these need to be taken away and cleaned through, which I do not know if you have had any rug cleaning training but this is another ball game, and not just a 'run over with your machine' If you do not have any driers which you would need on this type of job I would say goodbye, looking at the confined area as well and the physical moving of these 'beasts' it could be a problem for your elderly customer.
2 rooms for £29?????????? so what did they charge her to ruin her rug?

I was originally owned by her sister before she passed away and that was the price back in the day, Robert Aigin has confirmed it as a Chinese washed rug, which would have been expensive, but alas worth nothing today.

They charged her £250 for specialist rug cleaning... I know the company and the owner and he is a complete charlatan.

The lady concerned is just a plain little old lady who has been caught out by a shyster... I really feel for her to be honest has her sister left it to her in her will...

I will probably do it for her for her as a charitable gesture on the understanding that it might not improve any plus it full of dog urine in one section.

I will assess it tomorrow when I have a had a sleep on it.

I've got one like that..
aside from mines red,
its persian
it's nowhere near as big..

ok it's not really like that at all..

Think I used M power, and will use M power again. We don't have room for it till we move so it's been in the shed.. I am actually dreading seeing the state, but reckon it will still be cleaner than that
