Leather needs to be identified prior to any cleaning process to ensure correct products and processes are used.

Aniline style leather would be approached very differently to Micropigment, two tone, pigment etc. Connolly leather would usually indicate a pigment coated but always best to check as names are often very deceptive.

Conditioners are not required on modern chrome tanned leather and can be counter productive so are best avoided. Protectors are better to help keep the leather clean rather than attract more dirt.

If you are cleaning pigment coated leather the process would be:
Pre Clean
Deep Clean
Protect
These 3 stages are the professional way to keep leather clean and in good condition.

It is also important to help your customer maintain the leather correctly between your deep cleans so pass on good advice too.

Hope this helps

As with everything else, get trained first before undertaking paid jobs for the public.
They will be expecting and deserve a Professional job, and that can only come from a trained operative.
There are more pitfalls in leather work than carpet, upholstery and curtains combined.
Judy has touched on a few pointers, and identifying the type and finish is crucial, and won't be learnt overnight. As with all things in life, it takes time.
