Nano On New Carpet..

Just to clarify i have this right before i go and do the jobs tomorrow, I have been asked again to protect a new carpet for someone.
My normal process is to vacuum thoroughly then lightly mist with clean water, then apply the protection..
For some reason i woke this morning with some doubt in my mind and can't think for the life of my why? would you say i am using the correct procedure?

The reason behind the water first i believe is that dry new carpet will absorb the nano and it won't leave an effective layer unless the carpet is dampened first?

Ive not used a protector as of yet, so watching this thread with interest. But I would of thought the other way round, in that you would want the fibers to be able to absorb the protector and therefore a dry carpet would be better

If the nano protect is fully absorbed then it would not "coat" the fibre, the protective layer needs to be on the outer layer of the fibre.

Pre dampen with plain water lightly this will the fill the central filiment of the fibre wait for about 10 minutes then apply the first coat of protector wait 10 minutes then cross apply a second coat. DO NOT BRUSH IN

Depends on your definition of "light mist" Adrian.

For myself, I have applied the water at the normal pre-spray application speed but in one direction only using an 02 jet.

A light mist could be anything greater, or more likely lesser.

Normal pre-spray rate Ken, using a steady 35psi with my shureflo sprayer and from memory i have fitted a 02 jet the same as you use by the looks of things,.. I say light mist as i mean not drench it.. but lay sufficient water to be absorbed in to the fiber to allow the protector to lay on the surface and not be absorbed..

Just to confirm that with Protect Nano, do not brush it in at any time?
( If so, saves a bit of energy as well! I'm pooped as it is...)

No don't brush it in.. leave it to dry, and recommend to your customers it's not to be walked on until fully dry, 12-24 hours..

But I would always groom the carpet before application.

I always find this an issue when selling protector, especially if a high use room, lounge etc.

In an ideal world 12-24 hours would be great, however in the real world for many it's just never going to happen.

I'll always use an airmover to get the carpet dry or as dry as possible prior to protecting, once done I just ask them to stay off it for a couple of hours until dry & then to just try to minimise use for the rest of the day.
Never had an issue & it doesn't seem to affect the longevity of Protect nano

You're so right Mark.

I adapted my own advice to enable the product to cure sufficiently within the needs of the "real world".

I tell the customer that protectors dry like paint, touch it after a few hours and it feels dry, but rub it and it will peel off. So....

I tell them not to walk on the carpet for three or preferably four hours (belt and braces approach). Then, wearing clean synthetic soled slippers, they can walk on it with deliberate footsteps (no shuffling) for the next 24 hours. After this, they can remove furniture tabs and blocks. Finally, for 48 hours after application, do not drag furniture across the carpet. It can be carried and placed but not dragged.

If you are tempted to use an air mover after application, beware. Do not use for at least 30 minutes. This will allow for maximum distribution/penetration of the product prior to forced and rapid drying. Obviously, Steve's advice above applies only to just cleaned and not new carpet.

All of the above advice is generic so applies to any brand of protector unless, of course, there are specific manufacturers instructions to the contrary. RTFL

Job done this morning, nice and simple mornings work, A really good vacuum, even though the carpet is new it still pulled out quite a lot, it's amazing what a carpet picks up in the warehouse and transit.. anyway, prespray with water.. just enough to wet the fibers, leave for 10 mins while i had a chat and coffee with the customer.. spray again exactly the same with nano.. chat again and mince pie this time, then final spray.. Job done..
Leave the custy with some shoe covers and told them if you need to walk on the carpet cover any footwear, don't drag your feet.. Custy happy and i am very happy, one of the easiest mornings for ages..
Good money return on this protection malarky..

Oh the bonus was bumped in to an old friend who is now the new manager of a national carpet shop here..
So he has taken my details and will update the system at work for any future cleaning or protection for customers.. ..
