First Solo Jobs – Advice for Cleaning Range Cookers?

Hey everyone,

I’m new to the oven cleaning game and have just taken on my first two range cookers — one 2-door and one 3-door.

This will be my first time cleaning solo since completing my training, so I’d really appreciate any advice, tips, or guidance from those with more experience.

Anything specific I should look out for with range cookers compared to standard ovens? Tools, techniques, or common mistakes to avoid?

Thanks in advance — looking forward to learning from you all!

Range master oven sometimes have to be pulled out a couple of inches to get to the screws on the side of the door, depends on the type of cupboard at the side sometimes just open the cupboard door.
Some Smeg ovens are a pain, just contours of the oven.
Just make sure you leave enough time once you start to get repeat jobs everything get easier and you know how long each job will take you.

Thank you for the advice. It’s much appreciated.
Can everything go in the tank as a normal oven would.
I only came across one range during training and can’t completely remember.

Cleaning techniques aside, I try to avoid cleaning a range as my first job in the day. If its an old minger your time allocation for the job can be scuppered so try to do them as the final clean for the day.
Hi

Yes i agree. If I have not done it. Before I also leave it to the last job of the day. As you say if its a minger you don't have to worry about getting to another job.

I also keep a note of how long all my cleans take. U can play my day far better then in the future.

Thanks for the advice and I will definitely take it on board after today’s clean. 3 door range and it was awful. Not been properly cleaned in 20 years they said.

Depends on your business plan and what you would like earn. I allocate 4 hours to cleaning a 3 door range it rarely takes that long but i usually only clean that one oven on that day on rare occasions i may book in a single after the Range but only if i have previously cleaned the Range. Only my opinion but i never move the oven especially if its dual fuel, if you break the gas connection your in trouble a rarity i know but prefer not to take the risk and customers understand once explained during your initial explanation of how your going to clean the oven.
Take your time and be methodical i prepare the ovens first, apply my chemical allow it to dwell whilst i take all the internal components to the van, pans stands, crowns etc. Then clean the Range from top to bottom by the time i get to the ovens they have had ample dwell time. Depending on what chemical you are using be aware that it can if using a caustic change the colour of some surfaces especially black!
