If you live in a hard water area don't go for a di system you will be using loads and loads of resin
Go for the RO system
My water reading is 66
Good luck

Great thanks guys!!! Thank you so much for replying. RO it is then. Just been reading so much and watching youtube and people have said if you are a one man band that DI is the way to go. I must admit i hate the thought of all the waste water with RO and this plus the filters is the highest overhead according to my projection spreadsheet.

Could i also ask what your thoughts are on buying a van with a system install in it already?? I live round the corner, literally, from Ionics but just can't afford a Ionics system install!

Cheers

Liam

That was my thought. What are your views on self installed tanks? Safety etc???? I have found one not far from me at an ok price but am unsure if i should go for it? I just don't have the money for a new van and Ionics install to start with. Thanks again for all your help!!!

Liam,

I am sure that Tristan would say that the small trailer is very manoeuvrable when driving and can also be manoeuvred by hand in situations when van access is not possible,

Look at Gardiner Systems. I was one of his first customers and he looked after me very well at half the cost of the others.

I used to put the waste water in a tank and then put it through again.

Hi Liam
I wouldn't go self install .
When you get your di system have it proffesionaly installed
Also I would buy one from a manufacturer as they will throw in some training
Window cleaning may sound easy but believe me it's not
It's hard work and you need to no what you are doing.
When you get your customers you want to keep them.

Thanks guys! All you help is appreciated! I am on a budget so buying new from somewhere is not really an option. I live in Swindon and have Ionics on my doorstep but their systems are not cheap and after you have bought a van then had one of their systems installed it's too much. Maybe something i can look into when i have some work under my belt.

I currently window clean for a local chap and use a WFPS with his water. I understand what hard work it can be but also enjoy the work and the outdoors. I am just looking to make my own business and provide a better future for my family, violins out lol

The chap i work for has said that he will help me but is very busy with work so don't like to put too much on him.

Is a pre-installed van and system a complete no no in your opinions or could be a starting point with my budget in consideration?

Thanks again.

Hi Liam - regards the eBay link with van and system the ro unit is a 4040 membrane and di vessel probs some small pre filters too . so if you have parking next to your house you could run a hose to the van and fill that tank in about 4 -5 hours depending on water pressure etc if you don't you are far better getting a delivery system only in a van ( tank pumps reel ) and filling a larger tank and ro at home and filling that way via a transfer pump and large hose which will take about 10 mins and you will always have a store of water . Ionic so are very overpriced ! Although I've seen a Hire purchase option on there mags if that's of any use with them been close . You need to understand exactly what you need and then price accordingly . 10 houses a day say 20 ltrs per house that's 200 Ltr per day min so if you fill a ibc over the weekend your set for the week . Then cost in poles etc and so on .

Thanks for that Damiel. Someone has pointed out to me that the poles look like Harris poles and are cheap and nasty? Also the have mentioned that the air vent for the heating system is not vented outside the van so you would have to leave the door open if using it??? They have said that its a cheap install just to sell. Would you agree with this?? Don't wanna buy a dud!!! Thanks all for your help.

I would want to know the weight empty. All those posh covers weigh a bit. I bought a fully lined van and the payload was severely restricted. Then allow for hosereels and poles etc.

Looks like someone's pet project lol ! Poles and reels ok - I run vivaros and be warned hitting 100 k on mileage and they drop to bits other wise if low mileage there are great I'm guessing that one having had gearbox and clutch already will be due to fail some injectors / turbo or something else expensive to fix ! .

Best advice with that budget would be find a good low milage van get a deliver system like this 1k Ebay Link: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/181831497029 get local garage to bolt in to van for you if your not able to do it your self then buy a separate ro unit 300 450/ gpd would do you and some poles / gardener slx or clx if on a budget will do for houses . Ive pretty much broke down cost of a full system further back on this thread if you need other costings .

Thank you so much guys, going to look for a van and get a system fitted i think. Meeting someone in swindon tomorrow to get a rough cost.

Say the Vivaro today and it was a bit on the tatty side and could see it falling apart pretty quick so all your warnings were correct. Will let you know how I get on.

Thanks again all!!!

One other question, does anyone know what size tank would be safe in say a VW Caddy??? Just looking at van options

You have to find the weight of the tank with all its pumps and hoses and yourself.
The hand book will give you the max load weight- either by subtracting tare weight from gross weight or it may sy the kilos.
1 litre is 1 kilo so a simple sum will give you max quantity of water.
