Hi
Went to do a quote today on a leather suite & need some advice with it
Noticed it didnt look like a 'normal pigmented protected leather.'
Was tan colour, very soft but did have a 'shine' which made me wonder if it was a full protected. The customer had used some leather wipes on it & where she had there was a lighter mark as though some colour had been lost.
I advised that i needed to test it as i was unsure of its leather type & wanted to see how it reacted to moisture. I made up some of my usual leather shampoo & applied some to the back in a corner. Even though it was only foam & not liquid, the leather just absorbed it like a sponge. I tried some more & showed the customer & it was obvious cleaning with that method didnt look right.
The leather suite also had head marks wear again it had absorbed.
I think the suite is aniline, not sure if full or semi. I've never cleaned one before - said to the customer i would take advice & come back to her. Ive cleaned lots of leather in the past but never come across aniline before.
Any advice greatly received. How are these cleaned & what results are acheived? From what i can see they are supposed to become stressed looking to some extent so is cleaning them worthwhile as i think this customer wants it back to 'how it was when new' which maybe impossible if they are suppose to 'wear.'
Thanks
Jase
