I find all the differing comments above somewhat confusing, I've been cleaning carpets the sane way for 30 years and have an arsenal of chemicals (cleaning agents) from various sources. Prochem, chemspec, craftex, bridgepoint etc etc. Whats wrong with a thorough vacuum, pre spot, prespray agitation, 15-30 mins dwell, acidic rinse extraction 200 psi with 2kw heater and 2x 3stage motors.
I prefer shampoo and pre-em prespray after prespotting as nearly always gives excellent results. Have not tried micro-splitters mpower or others mentioned so cannot comment on them. Am I just old fashioned or stuck in a rut ??

Well Peter,
I have been cleaning carpets and upholstery for about 47 years, and my approach and the products and equipment employed have been constantly evolving throughout that time, so maybe you are stuck in a rut. When you find a methodology that works for you there is a temptation to stick to what you know. But could not a better result be achieved, perhaps with greater ease? If you don't try you will never know - and the trial is a great part of the adventure.
When I started out there were no training courses, and other than detergent shampoos, no specific carpet cleaning products, Gradually things progressed to a point about 30 years ago when my approach was pretty much as you described. But with the advent of microsplitters, pre-spotting and rinse temperature became more superfluous. Now with M-Power I only have to pre-treat certain types of staining as most spots are removed by the product.
I am very happy with what I am currently using and it is hard to think that better results are achievable ,,,,,,,,,,,, But next month or next year ............. Who knows?

Try the sample pack from Solutions sooner or later, depending on how willing you are to condemn your present products to the back of the shed to rot for evermore, you will use them.
Forget heat, try agitation ( of the carpet, not yourself) and you will be amazed.

With the array of chemicals you have used in the past and sounds like you still use differing ones means that you are in one respect, not stuck in a rut..... but maybe with your methods.
I think most of the old timers on this forum used to clean carpets the way you have outlined and, like you, did our best to get good results, but certainly times have changed.... like they have in all walks of life.

One pointer I would like to clarify, is something that Joe mentioned, was coughing. Using various concoctions, potions and lotions, for the removal of grizzly bits from peoples carpets, over the last 15 odd years, I noticed that I had developed a niggling, annoying, cough.
So did my wife.
I had a check.
Doctor could find no damage apart from telling me not to do my job.
Helpfull.
Using PPE whenever possible helped instead of gulping tetrachlorides.
BUT...........Now using Solutions....... I have noticed lately the the annoying ,not a cough, but a throat clearing, has stopped.
End of Story.
So did my wife.
I had a check.

I had the same thing when using detergents but as soon as I switched I stopped coughing. Joe and I used the same brand of detergents.

Thanks john, I admit to being stuck in my ways but not through lazyness. I will try these products and report back on their all singing all dancing properties if I am suitably impressed. I would love to find products that actually do what they say instead of endless disappointment from hollow promises. Most of of my carpet cleaning is eot's so they are pretty grimy but I look forward to trying a new approach. After all you're never too old to learn , many thanks to everyone else who commented.

Peter, if you going for the trial pack the only product you MAY have a problem with is MPower. Many cleaners dont have a problem, but for some unexplained reason some cleaners dont get on with it at first, but perseverance pays off for the majority of those.
Follow the instructions with MPower re dilution. Its 1:120 which is 8.3ml per 1 litre of water. Use hot water and prespray a good layer. You dont want the carpet soaking with prespray but dont scrimp either. Some dont do much agitation with MPower, but I do and it works, but what is important is the dwell time. This starts from the time you apply as a prespray and MPower needs around 15 minutes, sometimes it benefits from more, say 20 min, but not shorter.
Some newbies to the product say what a waste of time sat around twiddling thumbs waiting for the dwell period. Bunkum. What you do is get the prespray done straight after the vacuuming, then do the agitation, THEN get your main machine out of the van, and hoses, and wand, and buckets and fill machine with water. So you are setting up machine whilst the dwell period is running.
If you have a second room to do, you can vac, prespray and agitate this before you start to extract room 1, and so on.
And if there is a little time left for the dwell period, dont waste it - do a little talking to the householder, build bridges.

Think a lot of people try a product once are not impressed and then it gets put in the shed to rot . Diff solutions excell in dif scenarios its knowing when where and how to use them that makes the diff i have had some cracking results with spm and shockwave and then in other situations not so good so its back to pb if required and is safe to do so.
Point i am trying to make is not one product suits all situations . I think sometimes if you read the boards and were an untrained newby you would feel all you needed was one product if only ot were so simple
