A big survey was done a year or so ago into where the population of England came from as many experts said that a large proportion were of Viking/ North German vintage.
90odd percent were descended from native Britons the remaining 10% being furriners. Vikings, Romans and those funny people from just across the Channel.

Yes Trevor, but not 10,000 years ago.

The Norman Invaders were vikings that had populated Normandy and other northern french areas.

So vikings were successful really, in attacking from the south, as well as the north.

Did you know Viking means....Pirate

England - Land of the Engles / Angles....from near Holland / North Germany if my memory serves me. I've not bothered to google it before typing....so might be wrong with that.

Nope, don't buy that one Tony............... just a smidge before the big bang there was infinite mass and therefore no universe (space) and no time! If there was no time then nothing could have happened before it.:goodday:
time for bed!

Bored now! Enough of the history lessons ya migrants!!!

We all came from carbon after there was a big bang anyhow. Get over it & move on :goodday:
This Big Bang stuff is all nonsense. One moment nothing and the next a whole Universe. Yeh right. And it's, apparently, expanding at an increasing rate. So, if a whole Universe sprang from nothing, who's to say that dark matter, or some other unknown particle, is'nt "appearing" to take the place of the expanded space / time?

And while we're on the subject, what about this "singularity" thing at the centre of a black whole? Infinate gravity? Swallows stars and all matter which just disappear? There's more out there than meets the eye. Mark my words...........and you heard it here first.:goodday:

Adi, who knows, you could be 'bang on' so to speak ( pun intended  ).

I was watching ' How small is the universe '....the latest microscope, which is massive and you'd think was a telescope, magnifies billions of times.

Getting down so close to things gives answers to working out the construction of things, helping to work out about the rest of things in life, ultimately about the big bang. They showed CERN on there too, amazing the size of that to watch atoms being smashed together. What I didn't know was, they're not smashing them together every now & then, but millions of times a second, on goingly.

I think there's so much we don't know that anything's possible.

Sorry guys, i should have put "Black HOLE" not Black Whole. That's a whole / hole different subject.

I love this physics stuff. Trev, many years ago i asked the question "what decides what each particle will become?" Many misunderstood the question with the most frequant answer being it's all down to chemicals. This of course is wrong as what dictates the particles that go to making a chemical. They just were'nt thinking small enough. After much searching i came across String Theory (yep, I'm sad like that, but i just have to know) and it seemed to fit the bill. But then i thought, what decides what makes a "string"?

The recent discovery of the Higgs Particle goes some way to the answer but............what makes a Higgs?

Oh my head hursts sooooooooooooo much.

Stop it NOW Adi before I grab you by the string theory & ram you head first down that black hole!!:pop:

Maybe then you could tell us what's down there?

I'll have you know that I watch "The Big Bang" on tv. (U.S sit com)
I liken myself to Sheldon Cooper, although as he'll never get saucy with Penny think I might change to Leonard? :yaa:

Should i mention that we (the boss & I) just banned our twelve yr old daughter from watching that programme? Reason? "It's a bad influence & you're going to end up stupid if you carry on".

No, on reflection, I'll not mention that.
